When in Rome, do as the Romans, when at home on Earth, do as the fairies. This might be the rule to make your life more fun, more colourful, more sparkling. Because a benevolent fairy is a good fairy. But how can we get into and remain in the fairies’ good graces? With luck, you will read this guide and follow it thoroughly and with diligence.
A rule for life
To be in the good graces of all fay and fairies, it is important to be honest and kind. So sneaking into the woods with the clear idea of leaving honey to gain something wont help you achieve your goal of befriending the fay folk. I mean, how would you like it if someone gave you a gift, only to receive something back? A gift is a gift. And we are often said to be cunning. We are said to give a gift so you owe us. Not true. Humans bind themselves into the intricates of fairy rules by saying stupid things like: Oh thank you. They don’t honor the gift with simple words of praise and appreciation, the tell us they owe us, because what else is thanks? And then they lay blame on innocent people.
And why? Because they forget all the rules.
Rules are joy
This is what we live by. We don’t have strict rules to bend people into something they are not. We have upstanding guides for the well-being and prosperity of all humans aka fay.
We do have a lot of rules we go by. Because that’s what makes a society. That’s what makes us different from those dark creatures that don’t abide by any law. None at all. They all fall.
We have rules, sometimes we have hierarchy. That is to say there is a kind and quenn, a leader for all. A leader who knows the rules, who is truly a noble, a noble by heart. Because noblesse oblige is true. You are bound as a leader, a true noble, to hold upright the laws and the values of society by being an example. By remaining noble even if everyone else is mean. Even if it is making life harder. Because you do not bend who you are just because it is uncomfortable.
You do not bend.
And so to live with us, you will have to be a noble of heart.
Some guidance
Of course there are these things we appreciate. (See, the word? No thanks!) We appreciate a warm hearth, a clean house, a chosen place dedicated to our well-being and rest. A few drops of honey, a simple meal.
Invite us in to share your food, to share your joy. Lend us what we borrow, it will never give you any sorrow.
Don’t brag and don’t pretend – then we will lend you a helping hand. If your intentions are not pure, we will walk away for sure. Stay with the dark then, if you please.
